"The time is NOW, to do the things which must be done. . ."

Many  worthwhile endeavors are fueled by volunteer hours, monetary donations, and donations of items that often help to make organizational commitments easier to fulfill.

The Annual African American Storytellers' Retreat is one such endeavor.  From the beginning, the RETREAT as it is called, has had as its primary purpose, to raise the traditional standards of the African Oral Traditions to levels of Artistic Excellence, and to inform and educate its participants in the four areas of cultural expression:

bulletThe Spoken Words Arts (of which storytelling is the taproot)
bulletVisual Arts
bulletMusic
bulletDance

We are now into our 22nd  year in which decisions have been made to deepen our commitment and resolve by doing some additional things:

1.    Inaugurate The Ko Taba School of Creative Storytelling (Ceritficate Programs), and

2.    Initiate the Afrikan Stories in the Americas  Preservation Project™ to record and disseminate collections of stories, proverbs, riddles, and new directions in the storytelling arts.

3.    Activate the Kijana -  Youth Storytelling Society for youthful storytelling and African languages and  instrumentation.

.4.   Support the work of BlackStorytelling national and international organizations.
